Solution Status

MOBOTIX AG, manufacturer of digital network-based video security products has awarded Davenport Control & Instrumentation Ltd Solution Partner Status.

This is following the development of an Automated Digital Surveillance (ADS) system which is helping to more secure premises while lowering operating costs, it is claimed.

The system designed by Davenport combines MOBOTIX mega pixel cameras with the company’s expertise in Building Management Systems (BMS) to provide automated unmanned surveillance of remote and unattended sites. They use a software application to create an intelligent auto operator facility that reacts to a given situation based on predefined procedures. These can include issuing of pre-recorded audio warnings, turning on lighting, escalating multiple audible alarms, sending of email and text alerts, and increasing the capture rate and quality of images from CCTV systems installed at the location. Manual intervention by human operator becomes a secondary requirement in the majority of recorded situations.

“We built the system in response to customer demand for an alternative to regular expensive and often unreliable remotely monitored solutions,” says Nigel Jones, Engineering Director for Davenport, “ADS can be configured to react in anyway the client chooses. We are also able to integrate many building management features into our surveillance system, such as mains failure detection, temperature monitoring, access control and remote control of equipment, lighting, etc.”

ADS has been deployed at a number of sites including warehouses, the residences of a number of high net worth individuals and The Labworth Restaurant and Beach Bistro, a well known restaurant on Canvey Island. “The installation of ADS at The Labworth is a great example of the system in action,” says Jones. “During opening hours, the system is effectively passive and simply monitors the site, recording every movement. After closing, the system switches to an active mode that firstly warns people who approach the site and, if a breach of the perimeter is detected, will activate local automated deterrents whilst sending alerts to us and the owners with real-time footage of the situation at the restaurant. Nine out of ten breaches require no manual intervention; the automated functionality alone usually does the job quite adequately.”

The monthly service charge for the ADS system, including remote viewing, is significantly less than traditional 24/7 monitoring the firms say. “Our system never sleeps, or takes a coffee break, or ignores suspicious activity. The quality of the images delivered by the MOBOTIX cameras is of such a high resolution that clear identification of individuals and vehicles has helped Police make successful prosecutions, supported by extremely compelling evidence recorded by our systems.”

Mike Lewis, UK Country Manager for MOBOTIX says: “What makes ADS so clever is the seamless way in which it integrates all these disparate technologies and delivers a control interface that is extremely effective while simple to manage. The potential to offer better levels of security at a lower operating cost is a compelling proposition to many clients.”
