Former senior Greater Manchester Police man now chairman of security firm Professional Witnesses Trevor Barton, is also Life President of Leigh Miners Rangers ARLFC (Junior Section).
Recently Trevor presented cheques of £500 each to two Leigh lads, Tom Dawson and Daniel Greaves on behalf of Professional Witnesses Ltd.
Tom who is 18 is to go on tour representing his country at Rugby League and Daniel who is 15 and a pupil at Bedford High School is in the top eight of the Great Britain Trampolining Squad.
Daniel used to play for Leigh Miners Rangers before he discovered his trampolining talent and Tom has gone all the way through the junior set up and into the all conquering under 18s and will undoubtedly be a regular first team member next season. The last time the two of them met they were playing for Leigh Miners Rangers 11s and 14s on tour in France. The other common factor is that to progress in so called minority sports and to travel to distant shores to compete, costs money and in both cases it falls on the family, their clubs and business to support them.
Trevor said: "If you’re a good lad and dedicated to your sport, but have not quite reached the elite level, funding can be a problem. It requires local companies to find some money as part of their corporate social responsibility to make sure young people do not miss out on reaching their full potential."
