Medical equipment designers and manufacturers Oxford Instruments sought to improve its security procedures since the introduction of staff identity cards.
Oxford Instruments Medical in Woking, with 210 staff, had an access control system installed. The firm decided to issue photo-ID cards. As Oxford Instruments already uses the Sentinel Visitor Management system from Kalamazoo to identify visitors, facilities manager Martin Thompson called Kalamazoo to enquire about staff ID. He says: ?Some of our staff provide customer support in the field which often comprises servicing medical equipment in NHS hospitals. They are frequently asked for proof of ID whilst in the hospitals, which previously they were unable to provide.” Oxford opted for the SentryCard On-Line Bureau. Instead of printing the ID cards on-site, the software sends an encrypted email of the data to the bureau where the cards are printed and then dispatched to the customer who will receive them within two working days. Where the cards are used as access cards, encoding is included as part of the service. As card printing technology moves on, customers get the benefit of the most up to date equipment.
