Station CCTV

by Msecadm4921

A supermarket in Bracknell at its petrol station and convenience shop has seen installation of new CCTV cameras.

Sainsbury’s petrol station in Bagshot Road, Birch Hill, has doubled the number of cameras that record details of all vehicles using the forecourt area. The cameras capture each vehicle’s number plates that can be used by police to identify any vehicle associated with criminal activity, such as driving off without payment. These images are suitable for use as evidence in court.

Upgraded CCTV has also been installed inside the petrol station shop to provide additional security.

PC Dave Keenan, neighbourhood officer for Birch Hill and Hanworth, said: “Following several incidents in which drivers filled up with fuel and drove off without paying, we identified the need for improved security measures at the petrol station.

“The neighbourhood policing team has worked with Sainsbury’s to support their implementation of the new system. We will continue to support them by investigating all ‘drive-off’ petrol thefts and bringing offenders to justice.

“The clear message to motorists is ‘Don’t try to leave Sainsbury’s petrol station without paying for your fuel. You will be identified and prosecuted.’”

Paul Robertson, manager of Sainsbury’s Bagshot Road store, said: "I am delighted that the new CCTV has now been installed: the system is already proving a success, resulting in three arrests already. This comes at a time where we are tightening up security in the main store as well, where recently we have had several convictions. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local police for their ongoing support."
