E-mail security firm SurfControl has come out with five anti-spam tips for network administrators.

E-mail security firm SurfControl has come out with five anti-spam tips for network administrators. They include: telling users never to respond to spam email messages. Sending a reply, even if it’s a request to be taken off a list, confirms a user at an address and encourages the spammer to send more mail; including guidance in your acceptable internet use policy forbidding the use by employees of their company e-mail addresses when surfing or shopping online; subscribe to ?real time black hole? list services that block delivery of emails from known spammers; subscribe to a signature database list, like SuperScout Email Filter’s RiskFilter, from SurfControl, which prevents the delivery of known spam and other digital junk. And make sure you update the subscription list regularly to ensure the most complete protection; and install content filtering tools that scan and block email messages that include suspect text like ‘get rich quick’ or similar subject words and phrases, and those with multiple forwards or huge distribution lists. SurfControl’s Vice President for Global Product Development Kelly Haggerty says: ?Network administrators should also be aware that the internet is packed with websites offering huge downloadable ‘fun’ files like screen savers, cartoons and jokes; all of which can rob networks of bandwidth and leave systems open to viruses.
