Surveillance Product

GE Security’s new VisioWave Intelligent Video Platform (IVP) product line is powered on DaVinci digital media processors from Texas Instruments, Incorporated (TI). The firms say it’s offering video surveillance customers the ability to optimise their bandwidth needs and reduce storage space.

The VisioWave IVP platform is the first line of products to include the new H.264-Scalable Video Coding (SVC) compression standard providing it’s claimed the best image quality for the bandwidth available. The H.264-SVC compression features multi-streaming allowing a single encoded stream to simultaneously provide multiple combinations of image sizes (D1, CIF, QCIF) to be extracted at various frame rates. In addition to multi-streaming, video surveillance customers further benefit from a 15 to 30 percent reduction in bandwidth for the same video quality, when compared to traditional MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile (ASP) solutions, the firms add.

“We’re excited that GE Security has released the first SVC-based security solution providing optimised quality for available network bandwidth,” said Danny Petkevich, TI’s video and vision director.

DaVinci technology

The VisioWave IVP platform is powered by TI’s TMS320DM6446 digital media processor based on DaVinci technology, which integrates TI’s performance-leading TMS320C64x+ DSP core, an ARM926 processor and video accelerators and networking peripherals. The DM6446 adds video encoding and decoding capabilities through a dedicated video processing sub-system capable of capturing and displaying various digital video formats. The DM6446 in the VisioWave IVP platform is complemented by power management and analog signal chain products from TI including a USB audio codec and amplifier.

“TI’s DaVinci based digital media processors offer the highest level of performance and integration,” explained Claude Promonet, Lead Systems Engineer for GE Security EMEA. “The DM6446 provided us with a cost-effective solution that addresses a wide range of applications and products and allowed us to develop a complete video security product line.”

All VisioWave IVP devices benefit from the interconnectivity provided by the VisioWave Video Operating System (VOS) offering video surveillance customers the ability to build a scalable enterprise solution that is interoperable with other security systems including access control, IP cameras and video content analysis applications. The video codec is upgradeable and all VisioWave IVP products are forward and backward compatible, thus protecting security customers’ investments.
