Thermal Cameras

by Msecadm4921

Axis Communications has introduced AXIS Q1921 and Q1921-E thermal network cameras. They’re suitable the makers say for 24-7 area or perimeter surveillance of roads, tunnels and airports.

Thermal cameras create images based on the heat that always radiates from any object, vehicle or person. This lets them see through complete darkness. Thermal cameras can also handle difficult weather it’s claimed better than conventional cameras, allowing operators to see through haze, dust and smoke. The Q1921 is designed for indoor use, while the Q1921-E is an IP66-rated, outdoor-ready camera.

Johan Paulsson, Chief Technology Officer at Axis, says: “After the introduction of our first thermal network cameras AXIS Q1910/-E earlier this year, we are now launching the new Q1921/-E models. Their improved detection range, wide area coverage and the flexibility provided by lens alternatives are features that are strongly requested from our customers. AXIS Q1921/-E allows the customer to implement affordable and flexible area and perimeter detection that meets the requirements of most applications. AXIS Q1921 and AXIS Q1921-E mesh perfectly with any network video system, delivering all the benefits that customers have learned to expect from network cameras.”

The four available lens alternatives are 10 mm, 19 mm, 35 mm and 60 mm.

The 384×288 resolution and the image processor further improve effective area and perimeter surveillance, the firm says. The cameras allow detection of people at a distance ranging from up to 200 m/220 yd. with a 55 degree field of view, and up to 1200 m/1300 yd. with a 9° field of view.  They support key IP-Surveillance features such as H.264 and Motion JPEG, two-way audio, local storage and Power over Ethernet. Intelligent video is a key component of any thermal camera, and AXIS Q1921/-E provide tampering alarm, motion detection, and support for AXIS Camera Application Platform.

AXIS Q1921/-E Thermal Network Cameras are supported by video management software through the Axis Application Development Partner program as well as AXIS Camera Station. They also support the ONVIF specification for interoperability of network video products. The cameras will be available in September 2010 through Axis’ distribution channels.
