The recent leak of email data belonging to organisations such as Barclays and Marks and Spencer has prompted The Security Company to release important third-party supplier security recommendations on its web site.
Epsilon, an email services provider to over 2500 organisations, suffered a hacking attack which resulted in the loss millions of email records. The incident has brought calls from security experts for regular testing and audits of third party suppliers to ensure the security of customer data.
"It is remarkable that it takes a breach of this size to encourage serious discussion about increasing the need for third party verification", says Bernadette Palmer, Senior Communications Consultant for The Security Company. "Organisations need to be monitoring and testing their supply partners much more regularly and in more depth than has been common practice in the past."
