The University of Cambridge is halfway through phased migration to IP CCTV and help-point systems spanning 17 separate sites and over 300 cameras at the university….
After previous installations by Tyco more than 15 years ago and research into alternatives, the university (UoC) has come back to Tyco Integrated Systems (TIS) to deliver Internet Protocol for their security, control and service contract needs. The uni has some 17 separate security zones, and will be making savings by converting over 300 CCTV cameras and numerous help-point, alarms, VoIP intercoms and access-control systems to IP through TISโรรดs Mosaic monitoring and control product.
Mosaic offers according to the makers advantages of IP architecture while enabling supervision and management of traditional analogue systems and IP products.
Robin Satwick, TIS project manager said: โรรบApart from the obvious technology advantages, the beauty of the product is its flexibility and scalability. The use of Mosaic means TIS are able to combine a wide array of security and surveillance products from various manufacturers to provide a single integrated platform which can be extended in the future using the existing multi-service network infrastructure.โรรน
The new system also supports integrated network video recording (INVC) providing the uni with critical evidential quality digital recording facilities within the updated CCTV control room. Here, TIS have installed a complete digital video wall, with numerous operator workstations which is backed up by a full service contract.
Robert Lindsay, Estate Management at the university said: โรรบThe five distributed servers, central SAN storage, multiple work stations and new video wall in the control room will undoubtedly save us needed storage space, reduce retrieval times and provide quicker incident and security reviewing.โรรน
