ESRI (UK), the UK provider of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), has announced the Public Safety speaker line-up for this year’s Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) User Conference. Running from 28-30 October at London’s QEII Conference Centre, over 1,000 delegates from 60 countries will attend the conference, say organisers.
“This year’s Public Safety Track programme is a real-life showcase for the far-reaching benefits of GIS, underlining how indispensable it has become,” commented Richard Waite, Managing Director, ESRI (UK). “GIS visionaries will be sharing examples of the positive benefits GIS can bring, enabling intelligence to be more effectively shared to tackle critical issues such as anti-social behaviour, violent crime and multi-agency collaboration.”
Over 10 organisations from the Public Safety sector are speaking at the conference, demonstrating the conference’s theme of how GIS is meeting the challenges we face everyday, including:
· British Transport Police – ‘The future’s bright: improving UK Policing using GIS’
· Kingdom of Bahrain – ‘Geographic Security System’
· Leicestershire Police – ‘Mapping the footfall of serious and organised crime’
· Metropolitan Police Service – ‘Interactive Offender Profiling System: a GIS-based behavioural analysis tool’
· Institute of Crime Science – ‘Evaluating the predictive accuracy of crime hotspots’
· Strathclyde Police – ‘Reducing violent crime using GIS’
· Worcestershire County Council – ‘Multi-agency problem solving for community safety’
· Cheshire County Council – ‘Using GIS to promote safer and stronger communities
The Public Safety Track programme will be running on day two and three of the ESRI EMEA User Conference (Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 October 2008) following the opening day plenary session on Tuesday 28 October, where Jack Dangermond, President of ESRI Inc, will be joined by speakers including David Shukman, BBC Environment and Science correspondent.
