UV Aid

by Msecadm4921

West Yorkshier Police officers in Calderdale are being given portable UV key ring lights to help detect crime. The small key rings will be used by officers in the division wanting to identify stolen property.

Although invisible to the naked eye, property that is marked by a UV pen means that the indelible substance markings will be detected under the UV light on the key rings, and will help officers to identify the stolen property.

Response Inspector Geoff Halpin, for the Calderdale division, said: “The key rings are very useful for identifying stolen property that has been marked by a UV pen which are readily available.”

While members of the public are being asked to ensure all valuable property is marked by a UV pen, officers in Calderdale are also offering handy tips to keep people safe this Christmas.

Inspector Halpin said: “There are a number of small things that can be done which make a massive difference in keeping people safe.

“Firstly, don’t leave Christmas presents on view in cars when you go shopping as this provides the ideal opportunity for thieves to strike. It is better to lock your shopping away in the boot, and never leave the car engine running or the car unlocked while you deliver Christmas presents.

“Secondly, make sure your purse, wallet and other personal belongings are safe as if you don’t have an eye on them, someone else may have.

“And thirdly, don’t leave your Christmas presents under the tree before they actually need putting there as they can attract unwelcome intruders into your home.

“By following these simple steps you will help us to crack crime this Christmas.”
