CEM Systems, part of Tyco Fire & Security’s Access Control and Video Systems business unit, has announced the release of AC2000 SE (Standard Edition) v5.0 software.
Changes, the makers say, include a new ‘look and feel’ for the front-end applications, support under Linux operating system and the ability to enrol and manage biometric templates.
The Version 5 platform represents the new generation software for CEM’s AC2000 SE product offering a contemporary new look and feel for the front-end operator workstations running under Windows XP. All applications have a similar structure with drop down menus for easier navigation, it is claimed.
New features available with AC2000 SE v5.0 including:
Availability to run under Fedora Linux operating system as well as SCO UNIX, making the system more affordable for smaller clients, it is claimed. A Linux server offers the same benefits as UNIX, such as reliability and flexibility, but at a lower cost, according to the firm. The availability of the Linux platform means that small to medium sized organisations that may have previously opted for a Windows Server based system due to the higher costs associated with UNIX can now enjoy the powerful security features available with AC2000 SE.

Version 5.0 has the ability to enrol and manage Biometric fingerprint templates from the AC2000 SE system instead of using third party biometric equipment and software. Users can enrol their fingerprint at the AC2000 SE workstation with the templates stored on the AC2000 Server alongside other cardholder details such as image, signature and personnel details. This template is then distributed via the access control network to the local CEM reader at the door for card and fingerprint verification.
Additional features include increased capacity to support more than 4000 card readers from a single Server, an improved ID badge design application, and the ability to freeze/unfreeze a card that hasn’t been used for a specific period of time.
