Following its recent acquisition of the Vivid DVR, StreamScale reports a number of hardware and software upgrades for existing users.
The first, a software upgrade service, allows existing users of the Vivid Lite – Baxall’s entry level model – to upgrade their systems to the full Vivid Plus specification. Vivid Plus features full Triplex functionality, single channel audio recording, DVD recording, SCSI connectivity and an s-video monitor output. The recording rate is also doubled from 25pps to 50pps (PAL) and 60pps (NTSC).
The second is a USB stick which allows Vivid systems that have Baxall SP4 software already installed to simply replace all of their existing internal hard disks with new drives. This allows, the company based in St Helens says, users to take advantage of developments in disk drive capacity and demonstrates the advantages that stem from the Vivid’s Linux operating system and support for USB devices.
StreamScale has now made available for a small charge the Baxall SP4 system software for existing users, which provides a number of enhancements and bug fixes to the operating system and allows users to take full advantage of the other upgrades that StreamScale have introduced.
All three upgrades are available StreamScale’s on-line shop (www.streamscale.net) and are for any existing Baxall Vivid user that wants to upgrade their system.
StreamScale founder Pete Diamond says that he is hoping to send a message to existing Vivid users with these latest upgrades: "Vivid is a great DVR and StreamScale is committed to its on-going development. We want to let existing customers know that their investment is not only safe but that the system they have is capable of considerable development and enhancement. We also plan to start offering support contracts for existing Baxall Vivid users in the very near future."
The DVRs feature a full SNMP v.3 implementation, including a fully documented MIB, that provides what the firm calls a relatively simple, yet powerful means of controlling and integrating the unit into a network using industry standard IT tools and techniques. The product also features JPEG2000 image compression – one of two image compression techniques selected as the international standard for biometric images and suited it is claimed for the application of video analytics.
Other features: a front-panel USB port, that, among other things, supports standard PC keyboards; a range of integrated telemetry protocols; and a multi-lingual user interface and menus.
The Vivid DVR is available from StreamScale with six, 10 and 16 camera input options and with disk sizes ranging from 80gb to 1tb. This makes the product suitable the firm says for a range of applications from small retail units through large offices.
