The Viseum CCTV system allows operators to spend more time looking at things that really matter, it is claimed.
The system is on trial with two police forces in the UK and a university in East London, the company adds.
Viseum’s detection and tracking system or ‘smart’ CCTV technology monitors all that is going on everywhere to detect suspicious activity, the makers report. The technology can detect a range of suspicious behaviours, street crime and potential threats such as persons leaving bags in public places or people acting suspiciously, it is claimed. Once an incident is detected the system automatically tracks and records high quality images of the incident. The system immediately alerts monitoring centre operators to the situation, with images, thus potentially helping to prevent terrorist attacks, the company claims.
The product is based, the makers add, on measuring various physical parameters such as size, shape, speed, time, movement, density and location of a particular scene and comparing these to a pre-selectable surveillance profile. If any parameters are exceeded, the cameras then spring into action and follow such unusual occurrences, the company says.
What they say
"It is virtually impossible to ensure that operators will be looking at the right cameras at the right time. This technology has been instrumental in fighting crime in the areas where it has been installed," says Stuart Thompson, Managing Director of Viseum.
The product consists of a moving camera situated underneath a ring of fixed cameras, giving a 360 degree view. Images can be sent to a computer, palmtop or mobile phone.
