News International has bought a wireless intrusion detection system to protect its business-critical wired network.
The company has bought from Red-M which is to be installed at its publishing and production facility in Wapping, where its national newspaper titles The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun and News of the World are produced.
What they say
Karl Feilder, president and CEO of Red-M, said: "There is increasing pressure on corporate executives, who become liable if they knowingly expose their companies to loss. Although wireless technology greatly enhances many business practices, it also adds an unprecedented layer of risk. It’s a promiscuous technology that creeps in via PCs, PDAs and mobile phones and it can undermine honest and otherwise thorough efforts at due diligence. The only way to minimise this risk is to constantly monitor for wireless devices if you want to keep them out of your organisation. If, on the other hand, you are implementing wireless technology, you need to add specific measures to manage your changed security profile. It’s not difficult but it is necessary, in much the same way as internet firewalls are necessary."
