Work-related Violence

by Msecadm4921

The Institute of Conflict Management is running a conference on investigating incidents of work-related violence.

It’s aimed, the ICM organisers say, at security and other managers where staff come into contact with the general public.

The November 30 event runs at the London Voluntary Resource Centre, Holloway Road, N7 6PA. Speakers invited include Liz Smith, HM Inspector of health and safety at the Health and Safety Executive (HSE); Anthony Bleetman, consultant in emergency medicine at Birmingham Heartlands Hosptial, on incidents in accident and emergency departments; Tony Holland, Security and Information Manager, South West Trains, on incidents on the train operator SWT; and Alan O’Loughlin, of the better working environment division at the HSE, on sharing good practice.

An after-lunch session sees discussions by industry sector – invited speakers are Aidan Harris (Transport for London); Steve Shiner of Complete Care (Warks) on health and social care; Justin Stoneham, of East Sussex Fire Brigade, on security and protective services; Mark Lewis of Marks & Spencer, on retail; and Hayley Lancaster of the Department of Work and Pensions, on the public sector.

For more details, write to the ICM at 840 Melton Road, Thurmaston, Leicester LE4 8BN or fax 0116 264 0141.

The ICM reports that a quality award scheme is ready, for providers of training in managing work-related violence. There’s also a founation award in managing work-related violence, using the national occupational standard, to be delivered by ICM registered member trainers. The ICM adds that it is applying to the Qualifications Curriculum Authority to become an awarding body.
