Newcastle International Airport (NIA) has selected the 620 DV X-ray (screening) equipment from the manufacturer Rapiscan Systems, as part of the airport‚Äôs upgrade between November 2011 and April 2012….
Rapiscan says that the 620DV generates multiple views of scanned items, which allows operators to identify threats faster, for passenger throughput, while also minimising hand searches by allowing cluttered bags to be cleared on screen. The dual-view technology pinpoints potential threats and allows screeners to divert potentially threatening items to a separate inspection area, so passengers can continue through lines uninterrupted. The 620DV software can be upgraded in response to changing customer requirements, reducing the firm says the need for hardware changes.
David Kent, VP Sales EMEA, at Rapiscan Systems said: “Rapiscan Systems is pleased to work with Newcastle International Airport in upgrading their security screening and installing the latest in technology innovation. This is an example of airports upgrading from single view to dual view technology to increase security and enhance passenger throughput, benefitting both the airport and the passengers as they travel through the terminal. Furthermore it is yet another example of a Type C deployment in Europe ahead of the proposed April 2013 lift on the restrictions on liquids, aerosols and gels deadline and goes to show the importance for Airports to maintain and invest in the latest in advanced security screening solutions.”
