Landlords in a Bradford village have called time on rowdy revellers after setting up a new scheme to help keep their area safe.
Publicans in Clayton have said they were right behind the establishment of a new PubWatch scheme in the village which could see anyone who commits crime or serious disorder face being locked out of their local.
In total, six pubs including the Fleece Inn, Albion Hotel, Royal Hotel, Black Bull, Fiddlers Three and Paradise Farm have set up the new network with the support of the North Bradford Local Policing Team.
It will see all of the pubs communicate regularly with each other and Police, share information, and work to ban or restrict anyone who causes trouble in any bar which is a member of the scheme in the area.
While Clayton’s public houses are already largely problem free, landlords hope the scheme will help reassure residents they are keen to work with them to tackle any issues which arise in the village.
The establishment of the Clayton Pubwatch follows hot on the heels of a number of schemes which have begun in Airedale and North Bradford in recent years, and which have proved popular with residents and drinkers.
Areas operating PubWatch schemes include Haworth, Bingley and Keighley, several of whom have banned those causing disorder.
PC Paul Beck of the North Bradford Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "We have been keen for a while now to establish a Pubwatch in Clayton and I want to thank landlords involved for coming on board with us.
"It must be stressed that Clayton is already a safe place but by establishing a Pubwatch these businesses are all helping to promote safer drinking and will make it clear that alcohol related disorder will not be tolerated in the community.
"Quite simply, those who cause or are intent on causing trouble could find themselves locked out of all of their locals."
Inspector Tom Horner of the North Bradford NPT, added: "We are very pleased to see this Pubwatch up and running in Clayton as experience shows us these schemes really do make a difference.
"During previous service as a Neighbourhood Policing Inspector in Pudsey I witnessed PubWatches we supported make a real impact in cutting disorder and creating a safe and happy environment for customers and we anticipate this scheme will be equally successful."
Mick Willoughby, Landlord of the Fiddlers Three, said: "We are pleased to support the Police in setting up Pubwatch as although we don’t get a lot of trouble in Clayton, measures such as these will help make our pubs safer still for customers."
