The Danish Institute of Fire & Security (DBI), based in Copenhagen, applied to the EU for funding to send 20 security trainers to the UK in a partnership with Skills for Security, the UK skills and standards setting body and issuing authority for apprenticeships within the security sector. The project aims to see how security training is done here in the UK and share best practices.
The first of two visits took a week during March (a second group of ten will visit in June 2013) and consisted of ten trainers. Among the visitors were representatives from the Police, installation companies and end-users, including the head of security for the Danish National Museum. All are involved in the security training process and were therefore keen to understand how best practice in respect of training is implemented in the UK.
Poul Christensen – DBI, Group lead for Group 1 described it as a great experience, โwhich gave the group an understanding of how the industry sector operates in the UK and an inspiration to security training. We felt very welcome at all destinations; Skills for Security had done a brilliant job organising the trip!โ
The trainers were welcomed by the organisations below who kindly gave their time and expertise. Thanks go from SfS to all involved from:
โขWorcester Fire Station
โขG4S and Her Majestyโs Prison, Birmingham
โขAsset Protection and Brindley Place, Birmingham
โขThe Fire Protection Association, Moreton in Marsh
โขCooper Security, Mitcheldean
โขTavcom, Hampshire
โขBroadland Guards and the Royal Borough of Kingston-upon-Thames
โขNova Security, Abington.
Not forgetting the local coach company Dudleyโs Coaches, Worcester, who provided the service shuttling everyone around for the week and keeping everyone on time!
SfS look forward to the second group of trainers visiting in June.
