BSIA hails growth

by Mark Rowe

The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) has hailed a rise in membership growth this committee year, welcoming on board 26 new members since July 2016. These figures represent a 37 per cent year-on-year increase, with the BSIA welcoming 19 members during the July 2015 to May 2016 committee year.

This association celebrates its 50th year of service to the United Kingdom’s private security industry. Over the 50 years, the Worcester-based trade association says, it has grown in size and influence, enabling it to represent the best interests of the industry from small and medium sized businesses, to global corporations.

Sharon Mughal, the BSIA’s Membership Development Manager, says: “BSIA membership can benefit companies in a multitude of ways, from keeping abreast of changes affecting our industry, to the opportunity to assist in the development of new standards. Over our 50 years, we have been able to establish prosperous relationships with the Government, police, inspectorates and consumer groups, ensuring the association is well positioned to drive engagement with key industry stakeholders.

“It is important that we grow our membership in order to maintain our influence as the industry’s leading trade body. As such, the association regularly consults with members and reviews its membership strategies in order to explore initiatives that may bring new companies into the fold, such as our new probationer scheme.”

The BSIA’s new probationer membership scheme allows companies that do not have their IS0 9001 certificate yet, but that meet with the rest of the BSIA’s membership criteria, to temporarily join the BSIA on the condition that they will achieve their ISO 9001 certificate, accredited by a UKAS certification body, within 12 months of joining. More about the scheme can be found here: https://www.bsia.co.uk/join-the-bsia/bsia-probationer-membership.aspx#.
