Delta Security Management has been accredited as a Living Wage Employer. Everyone working at Crawley-based Delta receive a minimum hourly wage of £9.50 which compares with the government minimum for over 25s, which stands at £8.72 per hour.
Crawley is in West Sussex, a region where 15pc of all jobs pay less than the real Living Wage, says the Living Wage Foundation. The Living Wage, says the Foundation, is a voluntary benchmark for employers that wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum.
David Graffham, the founder of Delta, said: “Delta Security’s first-class reputation is down to the quality and expertise of our colleagues. We firmly believe that paying the Living Wage is the right thing to do as a responsible employer. It will help us to attract and retain the best people, supporting them in building a rewarding career within the security industry and at Delta Security Management.”
Background
The UK Living Wage is £9.30 per hour. There is a separate London Living Wage rate of £10.75 per hour to reflect higher costs of transport, childcare and housing. These figures are calculated annually by the Resolution Foundation and overseen by the Living Wage Commission. In July 2015 the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that the UK Government would introduce a compulsory ‘national living wage’. This new Government rate is a new minimum wage rate for staff over 25. It was introduced in April 2016 and the rate was £8.21 per hour as of April 2019. The Government rate is based on median earnings while the Living Wage Foundation rates are calculated according to the cost of living in London and the UK. Visit https://www.livingwage.org.uk/.
