Brief:

Books about the World Trade Center and 9-11 have an awful fascination.

To security managers they have an added poignancy – and a message. Heart of a Soldier is the story of a Briton, Rick Rescorla, who served in the British Army and then for the US in Vietnam. He became chief of security for Morgan Stanley Dean Witter at the WTC and perished in the Twin Towers. As the title suggests, it’s a moving and gripping biography, including sobering pages about evacuation drills after the 1993 bomb at the office block, and the real evacuation on 9-11. Let us hope the equivalent British book can never be written.

The Heart of a Soldier: A Story of Love, Heroism, and September 11th, by James Brewer Stewart.
