Cultural Property Security: Protecting Museums, Historic Sites, Archives, and Libraries
Not the least achievement of Cultural Property Security: Protecting Museums, Historic Sites, Archives, and Libraries, by Daniel Benny is that the book shows how wide are the demands on the museum, library, archive or historic site security manager: protecting the perimeter (from terrorists driving a bomb to attack an iconic site?), or assets (Van Gogh is not around to replace any defaced paintings). Certainly a book to consider if you’re thinking of taking a job in the cultural field, or if your employer runs exhibitions or has artefacts in store – trophies, or company memorabilia, which would lead to embarrassment if stolen or vandalised. Take the Houses of Parliament for example, pictured. Like most other books by Americans – Benny is based in Pennsylvania – it’s very US-based.
