Brief:

Drugs, Addiction and the Law provides an excellent basic guide to a complicated area of the law, writes Ken Rogers.

Previous editions have been recommended in Professional Security, and I have no hesitation in recommending this. It could not be more easy to use for quick reference. Again this guide has been provided with a well made hard cover (loose leaf) that enables ease of updating with ‘updates’ provided by the publisher. With the continuing increase in the use of illegal drugs, private police are more likely to become involved in the arrest and detention of offenders, for instance in searches at places of work. Areas included in this publication discussed by the author are the ‘principal changes in the law’ since 1996 and the law on cannabis, being implemented later this year. Unlawful possession of drugs is discussed in some detail followed importantly by powers of the police and ordinary citizens regarding drug offences. The author, a senior lecturer in law, also deals with drug trafficking and the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and ‘characteristics of the most commonly abused drugs’.
