Women in Security

WiS for short, our annual awards to celebrate women in the security industry have gone from strength to strength, clearly meeting a need.

You can become a sponsor of this which is a dinner dance. Your sponsorship gets you a table of ten, and your corporate logos on all the pre- and post-marketing that we do. That’s full page adverts in each month of the print magazine, on the website, and through social media messaging.

From the first WiS in 2012, the categories have grown to reflect demand; there’s now five. The 2024 night had an extra, Baroness Ruth Henig Award, given by the judges in memory of Ruth Henig, a WiS supporter who died in 2024.

When: The 2025 Women in Security Awards are due at the same venue as in recent years (apart from a virtual event during the covid pandemic), the Underglobe on the South Bank in London. Black tie for gents, best for ladies! And get ready to boogie!?

Liz Lloyd writes:

As a sign of how respected WiS is, the Professional Security Magazine Women in Security Awards are supported by all the UK’s major industry professional organisations and bodies in the private security sector:

the Association of Security Consultants, ASIS International UK Chapter, British Security Industry Association (BSIA), Fire & Security Association (FSA), International Professional Security Association (IPSA), National Security Inspectorate (NSI), Security Institute, Security Industry Authority (SIA), Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB) and Worshipful Company of Security Professionals.

Each of those has a judge taken from their chairs and chief execs and in their turn host WiS each year. Each year WiS sends out a message to women already in the profession or those who are considering the wider world of security as a career of choice: this is an industry that welcomes, supports and recognises the contribution of women. The awards are in five categories:

  • business manager;
  • contribution to industry,
  • security manager;
  • technical; and
  • front line.

The nominations are based on two questions:

  • How does the nominee contribute to the wider world of security-profession-industry, over and above her job specification? and;
  • Why, in your opinion, should the Nominee win the award? The response each year is inspirational, and the quality of nominations makes it very difficult for our judges. The awards are something for the security profession to be proud of.
