Award quartet

by Mark Rowe

Four Securitas officers were among winners at the national British Security Industry Association (BSIA) Security Personnel Awards 2014. Gary Douglas and Ajaz Ahmed, pictured, were handed the ‘Outstanding Act’ Award for their vigilance when they spotted a man following a woman into toilets in Halifax Bus Station. Both officers immediately went to investigate and encountered a woman being sexually assaulted. Although the offender fled the scene, Ajaz recognised him a week later and contacted police, leading to the man’s eventual arrest.

Garry MacLean was the winner of a ‘Best Use of Technology’ Award. Chosen for his work in improving the quality of service delivery provided to Scottish Power, Garry highlighted issues and provided the winning solutions which, in turn, brought about changes to systems which have benefitted both Scottish Power and Securitas.

Finally, the ‘BSIA Chairman’s Award for Contribution to the Community’ went to David Bone, an active member of Securitas’ community team since its creation in 2008. Dave has dedicated countless hours supporting and developing the team and being a friendly face at community events near his home in Tyne and Wear.

He said: I am extremely proud to be recognised by my industry in this way although this was not why I carry out this work in the community. I just see it as giving something back.”

The awards were presented during the BSIA’s annual luncheon in London on July 16. The evening’s haul was, yet again, a personal best for Securitas staff, who, earlier this year, scooped a record-breaking 12 awards at the regional stages.

Brian Riis Nielsen, Securitas Country President, said: “We’re very proud of our officers’ achievements and are delighted they’ve been recognised in this way. We encourage our employees to go above and beyond in their line of duty and these officers have done just that. They are a credit to the company, and to themselves and their families.”
