Essen launch

by Mark Rowe

Panasonic will use this month’s Security Essen show in Germany to launch a new 360 degree, ultra high 4K resolution intelligent camera.

Aimed at applications such as banking, retail and logistics, the camera can capture an increased level of detail over a much wider area than is achievable with traditional security cameras, the makers claim, meaning greater coverage with fewer cameras. The camera can serve marketing and security purposes, through heat mapping and people counting. This inbuilt analytics tools allows the user to identify where people move and stay within a room, which in a retail context for instance, can help measure the effectiveness of sales promotions, while data privacy is protected through motion scrambling.

This camera (WV-SF481) features sharp and natural colour reproduction with it’s claimed strong low light performance – the 1/1.7-inch sensor operates down to 0.05lx in black and white mode enabling what the company terms real day-night switching – for 24/7 surveillance. This is accompanied by a high resolution 4K engine, providing clarity at the centre and the rim of the image.

Panasonic Product Marketing Manager Gerard Figols, said: “It’s the first 4K 360-degree day/night camera with Auto Back Focus (ABF) saving installation time, cost and maintenance, and delivering extremely high image quality. The camera is also water proof and vandal resistant, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. It is highly versatile surveillance camera which can offer excellent performance to many businesses. What’s more the intelligent analytics feature gives organisations the power to gain more out of their surveillance cameras than just security.”

The 4K 360-degree camera will be premiered at Security Essen 2014 in Germany, on September 23 to 26.
