A case study from the manufacturer NVT (Network Video Technologies) of the New York City marathon. The company’s single and four-channel TBus ethernet over UTP/coax transmitters were fitted in a temporary installation. Security of the 26.2 mile course and of spectators was in mind after the bombing of the Boston Marathon.
The products for CCTV transmission provided situational awareness, voice announcements, media broadcast, and digital signage. The event organisers used coax cable rather than a long (and costly) run of fibre. Near to four miles of cable was in use, whether pole to pole, over structures or fences, or strung between trees. Dozens of Sony Ipela cameras were in use to feed information to race staff and incident commanders. Organisers add that the same system will be in use next year, expanded.
