Hospice install

by Mark Rowe

After its analogue CCTV started to fail and became too expensive to maintain, Farleigh Hospice, a registered charity, in Chelmsford, turned to Security by Design. The London-based installer had already supported the hospice for over a decade and recommended IDIS DirectIP. The installer and manufacturer donated a majority of the equipment with Security by Design offering heavily discounted installation services.

Richard Bates, Engineering Director at Security by Design, said: “We’ve been installing DirectIP at a range of businesses since 2013, so we knew that the IDIS solution offered the Farleigh Hospice the quality, reliability and performance they were looking for. In addition, with true plug-and-play configuration we could assure the hospice of a low cost of ownership through simple maintenance combined with no license fees and low power consumption.”

Installed were an eight-channel NVR connected to six full-HD dome cameras all operated through IDIS Center, the manufacturer’s video management software, which is bundled and comes without annual licences fees.

Mike Drummie, Senior IT Operations at the hospice, said: “The security and health and safety of our patients, staff and visitors is paramount, particularly as many of our staff and volunteers work throughout the night. IDIS and Security by Design have provided us with a state-of-the-art surveillance system that enables us to effectively monitor our entire facility 24/7 to meet our duty of care requirements. The user-friendly interface is proving simple for our staff to operate, while the system meets our storage requirements and enables the rapid retrieval of high-resolution images in the event of an incident. We are very grateful for the support from IDIS and Security by Design and we’re now looking to roll out DirectIP at our distribution, day care and retail sites.”

IDIS describes its flagship offering, DirectIP, as truly plug-and-play and single-source, comprising a range of full-HD cameras, network video recorders (NVR), and monitors—including 4K UHD and support for H.265. Go to www.idisglobal.com.
