Taut wire detection fences

by Mark Rowe

Among the perimeter control products offered by Protection and Communication Engineering Ltd are safe taut wire detection fences, as part of a PIDS (perimeter intrusion detection system). The company says that the product, which operates in electrification mode, has been tested in desert and tropical forests, and is for use around residential compounds, factories, airports and any large area with a perimeter that requires detection of attempted intruders, such as a utility site.

The company says that taut wire technology offers all that’s desired of a perimeter system with a physical boundary and alarm detection – aesthetics, a low false alarm rate, and low maintenance. Tension posts are spaced 50m to 70m, while the switch panel is insulated, and made of stainless steel; as is the switch sensor.

An alarm is generated when a wire is parted, or shorted. Wires are individually adjustable. A sensor panel is installed every 60m, midway between strain posts. Insulated grommets allow the sensor panel to be added to existing wires.
