Welsh Programme

by msecadm4921

Wales’ national Neighbourhood Policing Programme was the subject of a July 4 seminar to discuss how police and others can collectively improve on the perception of crime across Wales.

Organisers report that the event was for attenders to share their experiences and thoughts on delivering a community based policing strategy.

As well as representatives from Wales’ four forces, Edwina Hart MBE , Minister for Social Justice and Regeneration, was speaking on behalf of the Welsh Assembly Government and the Community Safety Partnership perspective was given by Torfaen County Borough Council.

The seminar will focus on the changing face of policing, future plans and the successes already seen with the development of the extended police family (introduction of PCSOs and the expansion in numbers of ‘Specials’) and the closer working relationships seen across Wales through the Crime and Disorder Partnerships.

What they say

Assistant Chief Constable Dave Francis said: “More and more we are seeing great examples of how our working closer together is improving life in our communities. The Cardiff Women’s Safety Unit, Police Officers working in schools alongside teachers and dedicated Communities First Policing Teams in some areas, are but a few examples. The conference is all about sharing good practice and identifying more and better ways of working together. The bottom line is that we must work closer and smarter to give the best chance to help the most people.”

Edwina Hart MBE, Minister for Social Justice and Regeneration, said: "The Welsh Assembly Government is committed to building safer and stronger communities and taking tough action on anti-social behaviour. There are few things that matter more to any of us than our own safety and that of our family. That’s why it is important we feel safe in our own communities and the Community Safety Partnerships play a crucial role in this.
