Sussex CSAS

by msecadm4921

Horsham District Council has become the first local authority in Sussex to gain accredited status under the Sussex Police Community Safety Accreditation Scheme.

The powers, under the Police Reform Act 2002, are delegated by the Home Office to Chief Constables to accredit local authorities and other bodies to enforce certain regulations and will allow the Council to issues Fixed Penalty Notices for a range of anti-social offences.

The Chief Constable of Sussex Martin Richards presented Horsham District Council Leader Cllr Liz Kitchen with the accreditation certificate at a meeting with Horsham District Council Cabinet members in Horsham in January.

The powers will be used by the Council’s Street Scene team of wardens and the Neighbourhood Wardens in Ashington and Steyning, Bramber and Upper Beeding as well as members of the Council’s Park Services staff.

Speaking after the presentation, Cllr Andrew Baldwin, Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Support at Horsham District Council, said:
“We are really pleased to receive this accreditation and to be the first council in the area to do so. We continue to take our community safety responsibilities very seriously so as to help maintain the high quality of life enjoyed in the Horsham District.”

Further information

There will be a meeting with Home Office Crime Reduction Minister Vernon Coaker later this year when he will be travelling to Horsham to see how the scheme works. Further information about any community safety issue in the Horsham District is available from Mike Rumble, Community Safety Manager at Horsham District Council, on 01403 215116 or email [email protected]
