Laptop Lock

by msecadm4921

Kensington, a mobile computing accessories company, has launched the ComboSaver Portable Notebook Lock. The Aylesbury-based product firm says it’s designed to offer laptop protection while on the move.

A combination lock with a coiled cable, it is designed to make it easy to combat the ever-increasing threat of laptop theft, according to the firm. It is aimed at students and mobile workers – among those most vulnerable to laptop theft – against falling victim to the kind of data loss that recent high-profile public sector security failures have thrust into the spotlight.

The ComboSaver’s T-bar mechanism and steel cable provide optimum security, while a ‘slinky’ style self-coiling cable means the device twists up to become compact.

“Laptops have never been more powerful or portable,” said Stephen Hoare, Secure It product marketing manager at Kensington Europe. “Huge amounts of valuable personal and professional data are kept on mobile equipment, which has given rise to new security risks. A lock is the first line of defence against losing your laptop to an opportunistic thief.”

“For the student, their laptop holds the keys not only to all their personal data, downloaded music and videos, but also to their academic success. This, combined with the fact that they often live in poorly-secured accommodation and carry their laptops to and from the library, makes them especially vulnerable. If parents have invested thousands in their child’s education and equipment, it would be foolish to lose it all for the cost of a laptop lock,” Hoare added.
