Scottish police in Highlands and Islands Division are renewing their previous warnings about deception thefts targeting businesses across the Highlands.
Police received a report of a ‘ringing the changes’ fraud at a restaurant/pub in the Inverness area on Thursday 25 July.
This type of fraud involves people attending at retail outlets or other businesses and asking for sums of cash to be changed into notes of a smaller denomination. While doing this, they deliberately cause confusion so as to obtain more money from the retailer than was initially handed over.
Police would be interested to hear from any retail outlets in the Highland area that think they may have been a victim of any scams involving the changing of money.
