The Security Institute (SyI), the UK-based membership body, is announces a working relationship with the official Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI).
SyI says that it will work with CPNI to help identify opportunities to promote professionalism in the security industry in the areas of physical, personal, cyber and information security, with the aim of helping to raise standards. This may include education, research and the distribution of guidance.
Institute Chairman Emma Shaw said: “I am delighted to announce this initiative and look forward to working with CPNI, and to drive forward professional standards. This is the 15th year anniversary of the Security Institute and during that time we have helped define and move the agenda for the growing professionalism of the security sector. We have the highest number of members in the history of the organisation and over 1,000 students have completed our distance learning qualifications – 2014 will see the largest number of students studying in one year. We were instrumental in the development of The Register of Chartered Security Professionals which was created by The Security Institute on behalf of The Worshipful Company of Security Professionals (WCoSP) in 2011. Applicants have to go through a rigorous staged assessment process which is why this represents the Gold Standard in professionalism in the industry and membership continues to grow. We plan to launch a Professional Development Framework later this year which will assist anyone working within the profession to develop their skills.”
