Roy's Monthly Gossip

Gossip column – July 2013

by Mark Rowe

As you read this we will be gearing up for our London event, writes Roy Cooper in his July 2013 gossip column from the pages of Professional Security magazine.

I am talking about Security Twenty 13. What do you mean, you don’t know what I am talking about? OK, go on to our website, click ‘events’ and then click on London. You will see that we are holding our next bash at the Novotel in Hammersmith on the evening of July 2 and on all July 3. So if you’re an installer, specifier, consultant or and end user, come along as a VIP, you will be very welcome, and should find the day informative. We have over 60 exhibitors as well, to show you also what is new. Plus: buffet lunch is on me. What are you waiting for?! go and register to come. You should be able to meet some of these guys that are in this gossip. I am talking about:

Chris Webster to start with. Now have you heard rumours he is off to the Middle East; it seems it is a fact, he is going out to Muscat! For a couple of years, to develop the installation business for Pointer. So next time you see Chris he will be looking nice and brown. Not sure Chris will be there at Hammersmith.

Phil Wring has moved on from Risco and is now works for VPS Site Security powered by Quatro as a sales executive; now that’s a mouthful! I know Phil will be there in London.

Melanie Kay has been taken on as a business development manager for the access product manufacturer SALTO. Melanie has been in the CCTV sector for nine years, working in distribution and directly for manufacturers. Salto will be there, so I assume so will Melanie. Also at ST13 London will be the two new boys from Frontline Security, the Buckinghamshire installer: Simon Hunt working the south who joins from Chubb; and Steve Payne also working the south who joins from Norbain.

Andy Perry has joined Custom Technology Solutions. Who are they, I can hear you cry, they are integrators in the Midlands, Halesowen to be exact. And yes Andy will be there.

The Security Buying Group, who are UK agents for Grundig Security and the distributor of Aimetis VMS and video analytics, have appointed Paul Scott, as technical manager. You may recall that Paul was working with Ephrem Clarke, no doubt he will be in London.

There seems to have been a few changes over at Unipart and so we welcome Martin Nobes as the new sales and Marketing Director; and yes he will also be there.

Avigilon have acquired an access control company called Red Cloud; I am also pretty sure that’s the former Lenel people who set up the company some years ago, and yes Avigilon will be at ST13.

Charity
Let’s talk charity and as you will know that at ST13 at Birmingham we raised £2144 for Joshua that was fighting a battle against leukaemia for the second time in his 12 years of life. His charity raises funds for the children’s hospital in Birmingham and here we are presenting the cheque last month. Sadly Joshua was not in the picture as he was undergoing some treatment at the time. On that theme we have identified Leuka, a charity that support life-saving research into the causes and treatment of leukaemia and other blood cancers. Those funds find their way into London hospitals and as we have Brian Pender of Charing Cross Hospital among the speakers at ST13 London, we thought it was a good fit.

Pyronix employees Gary Rogers, Andy Tuck, Laurence Kenny and Iain Hall, with Tony Streams from Enterprise Security are taking up the challenge to cycle from Canterbury in Kent, to Aachen in western Germany in three days. The cycle ride marks the 21st anniversary of when Enterprise Security first started trading. It’s a 237 mile trip which will take them through the Kent countryside, through France, Belgium, Holland and finally crossing the border into Germany. The charity they are raising money for is The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust, a charity in the north west of England providing holidays and care for terminally ill, disabled and disadvantaged. Donate via the Just Giving page online, or by texting “CAFT55 £ (and then the number of pounds you wish to donate)” to 70070. (For example text ‘CAFT55 £3’ to 70070).
