Role: Fire and Security Project Engineer

Location: Blackburn

Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 per annum

Technical Resources are seeking a Fire and Security Project Engineer in Blackburn to take responsibility for and participate in the Installation & testing, programming and commissioning of multi-disciplined security systems in support to the Project Delivery Team and assist in the Projects to Service handover process where applicable.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the, set-up, testing and commissioning of devices at the edge.
  • Participate in pre-handover quality audits specific to the installation of edge devices and make rectification recommendations as required.
  • Program head-end software to a sufficient degree to permit a full system functional test prior to formal witness testing.
  • On completion of system functional testing undertake system witness testing with the Buyer’s nominated Sign-off Authority.
  • When required, devise and formulate end user witness testing procedures and sign-off records
  • Communicate with client nominated or internal IT departmental staff when testing and commissioning connected system over a private or public facing internet protocol infrastructure.
  • Provide supporting advice to the client’s nominated IT project participants in regard to security product network data dependencies e.g. QoS, Mac Addresses, Gateways, Routing, Firewalls etc.
  • Provide informal hands on configuration and operator training or be the go-to resource for help post manufacturer training Notably in terms of system feature-set programming and day-to-day operator functions for systems such as AACS, VMS and a PSIM.
  • Provide weekly timesheets to the Project Manager for time and effort invoicing purposes.
  • Be prepared to be the acting Project Engineer (secondary role to Commissioning Engineer) for a project if called upon to be do so in support of the Project Manager.
  • As Project Engineer; to supervise the Installation Team on a day to day basis to communicate with the Main Contractors’ Site Foreman and liaise with assigned project staff employed by other participant trades and manage daily health and safety requirements of appointed contractors and its’ direct staff.
  • To manage the recording of ad-hoc variations as they occur at the working face and obtain signature endorsed evidence of said variations as being approved prior to commencement and as evidence of completion.
  • Provide daily progress reports to the Project Manager and escalate Health and Safety issues in writing to the appropriate authority and proactively raise any encountered/forecastable project/programme exceptions to the Project Manage before they become a red alert.
  • Confirm if the client requires early use of the systems before practical completion of the wider project and gain approval of the effect on the warranty period of the equipment.

Experience and Certifications Required:

  • 5-year checkable work history.
  • Right to Work in the UK.
  • Full clean UK driving license.
  • Security Cleared to BPSS Level.
  • Attain Approval to be Security Cleared to SC Level if not already the case.
  • Hold a professional qualification in terms of formal education.
  • 5 years’ minimum experience in a Commissioning Engineer role.
  • A strong customer management background.
  • Able to self-manage the delivery of project goals and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Be comfortable be able to contribute positively to a dynamic team environment.
  • Is a good communicator and at ease with presenting in front of stakeholders.
  • Produce accurate progress reports.
  • Proficient in process development.
