Infra-red at stadium

by Mark Rowe

Infra-Red LED illuminators have been installed at Headingley cricket stadium, the Leeds home of Yorkshire County Cricket Club. The stadium looked to security on site ahead of its sporting season, to reduce crime and improve safety for visitors. RAYMAX Infra-Red lighting from manufacturer Raytec was chosen to provide wide angle, invisible illumination for the stadiumโ€™s dome cameras around the walkways, car parks, and turnstiles. The spread of the illuminators allows the domes to generate CCTV images over a large area with clarity of subjects at long distance, with zero light pollution, the makers add. Regular events are held at night when the CCTV is at its most vulnerable. The RAYMAX illuminators deliver the quality IR images needed for monitoring during hours of darkness โ€“ providing 24/7 protection of the stadium. The makers add that RAYMAX Infra-Red LED illuminators have low power consumption, provide a ten-year plus life time and require itโ€™s claimed zero maintenance. Hence the makers point to energy savings and reduced running and labour costs.

Raytec Sales Manager, Vince Bessell, says: โ€œMany CCTV systems are employing higher megapixel and HD cameras due to demand for better image quality. High quality illumination is crucial for allowing these cameras to work to their full potential at night. Dome cameras especially require a good quantity and quality of illumination, not only to generate wide angle images, but to achieve high definition when zooming in over long distances.โ€
