ARC Training

by msecadm4921

The ARC Training International Academy for Security Management is a provider of training for corporate security managers and non-specialist management staff who are responsible for or linked to security activities and processes within their organisations. David Wood of ARC writes.

ARC has trained managers from companies large and small from four of the top five companies in both the UK and US. Over the past five years, we have trained personnel from over 100 countries, many of whom are responsible for protecting their business assets and personnel from very high level and real threats.

Because we train at management level, ARC courses concentrate not only on the more commonly taught physical, information and personnel security subjects, but rather on the integration of these into corporate governance and on the many security related issues which influence business activity from the shop-floor to the boardroom and beyond. Our progressive, interactive training requires full participation by delegates and a high degree of team working, business acumen and social interaction. Many of our courses also involve a project planning exercise which culminates in a simulated board-level presentation. Our security management courses are accredited by Skills for Security and are validated by examination.

As part of our unique and progressive approach to training security professionals, a particular success has been the development in partnership with Middlesex University of the Work-Based MSc in Corporate Security Management. Since its inception, the majority of our delegates have enrolled on the MSc programme, with the first graduate anticipated by the end of 2007. This programme, which is the first of its kind within the security profession, provides graduates with a recognised qualification directly linked to the realities of modern security management.

Delegates accumulate credits towards the final MSc qualification by successful completion of ARC security management courses and the production of closely assessed academic and work-based written submission tasks both prior to and after each course. ARC provides mentoring and guidance throughout these phases, to ensure that the delegates have the highest possible level of support. As the course work is based upon the delegates’ development and promotion of security within their own organisations, this MSc is unique in that it is an academic qualification which will also be of direct benefit to the employer. Indeed, the written tasks, as they are work-based, require the security manager to conduct extensive liaison and consultation within his or her organisation and line management in order to produce meaningful results.

We also take great pride in our support to ASIS International and The Security Institute. n behalf of ASIS, ARC runs the annual preparatory training reviews for the internationally recognised CPP and PSP Certification examinations. We host candidates from around the world and assist in their preparation for these internationally recognised and valued security certifications. Also, we are strong supporters of The Security Institute, and from 2007, all delegates on our security management courses will be given the opportunity to become members of this prestigious, profession-leading body.

ARC is continuing to go from strength to strength as it builds a solid training foundation for corporate security managers from the UK and overseas. Working both here in the UK or providing support to multinational and smaller companies overseas, ARC’s highly competent and experienced training team continually strives for excellence and improvement through constant interaction with businesses, and academic and specialist research. For the future, we aim to expand our already extensive and comprehensive course portfolio and to continue to attract the best and brightest security managers from progressive and professional organisations to the security profession’s most challenging and rewarding training experience.
