Security staff employed to help secure the Olympic Park home of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games observed a two minute silence on November 11 at 11am to pay their respects to those killed and injured in the service of their country….
The contract security company G4S’s managers and security staff not immediately engaged in security duty briefly left their posts to gather and stand in silent remembrance at a site in front of the main Olympic stadium in East London. Former members of the armed forces wore medals, regimental ties and head-dress for the brief ceremony which concluded with a piper from A (The London Scottish) Company of The London Regiment, playing a lament. Mark Hamilton, G4S’s Managing Director of Security Personnel, said: “As London prepares to play host to the rest of the world at the Olympic and Paralympic Games next year our staff wished to gather to honour those who have served their country. Some of our employees are former members of the armed forces and this is an important and poignant day in the calendar for us and for them.” Photographer: Derek Goard.
