Asset Location

by msecadm4921

ADT has launched Pinpoint Tracking Services, a service designed to protect high-value or mission-critical assets.

This solution combines tracking through the Global System for Mobiles (GSM) network operated by Orange across the UK with radio frequency (RF) location, accurate to within one metre, the firm claims. Unlike many existing GPS tracking systems, ADT says, on-board equipment does not need to ‘see-the-sky’ to establish an asset’s location. This makes it effective for situations, such as where a vehicle or trailer has been hidden inside a building, the firm claims.

What they say

Peter Laverack, Communications Director for ADT Europe, says: “Through our video monitoring, innovative access control and industry leading electronic article surveillance solutions, ADT has been helping customers protect assets and maintain visibility within their supply chain for decades. We are constantly building on that experience and Pinpoint Tracking Services is our latest innovation that combines proven technology with our unrivalled monitoring capabilities. For the first time, we can offer customers the ability to track assets without reference to any vehicle that they might be on and locate them with pinpoint accuracy in the most difficult environments.” Location and recovery of valuable assets is enabled via the Pinpoint unit, a small wireless ‘black box’. This compact unit is self-powered and has a battery life of up to four years, making it suitable, according to ADT, for tracking non-powered assets, such as lorry trailers, pallet loads and industrial equipment. Once activated, units communicate with ADT’s alarm receiving centre, allowing the asset which they are protecting to be located. They are already being used in the UK Toys R Us and TNT to manage trailers in their logistics fleet.
