Crimestoppers put some of Britain’s major police bosses behind bars for a night in the new prison in Peterborough.
Their ‘sentence’ was to raise money for the charity (at least £2,000) and the ‘inmates’ comprised some of the UK’s most senior police officers as well as several high profile business leaders, including: Julie Spence, Deputy Chief Constable, Cambridgeshire Constabulary, David Westwood, Chief Constable, Humberside Police, Alistair McWhirter, Chief Constable, Suffolk Constabulary and Kevin Wilkins, Assistant Chief Constable, Norfolk Constabulary.
Business leaders meanwhile included: Richard Phillips, Operations Director North, McCarthy & Stone, Richard Macmillan, Chief Executive of Adecco and James Gray, Chief Executive of Invest East of England, Bill Mackintosh, Senior Director, Royal Bank of Scotland.
The evening incorporated a champagne reception for the new ‘inmates’ and their guests at the prison, followed by a shortened and rather more entertaining version of the standard prisoner reception procedure before ‘inmates’ were led away to their cells.
Once in their cells this unusually high calibre criminal fraternity remained locked up overnight before being served a prisoner’s breakfast before their release.
Speakers at the event included Michael Laurie, Chief Executive of Crimestoppers; and Herb Nahapiet, Chief Executive, UKDS Ltd. The prison has been designed and built, and will be managed by correctional services company UKDS.
