Celeb Home

From the November print issue of Professional Security.

Infra-red illuminators are being used to protect the home of an unnamed TV celebrity, in an installation by Saffron Security. The personality asked for a security system which would protect the grounds and approach to the house day and night. Andy Murrell of Saffron Security says: “The property is made up of a number of buildings, including a business unit, which needs to be watched day and night. There is concern that people may be tempted to snoop around. We have set up 14 external cameras and mounted Derwent’s MFLED lamps directly beneath them to ensure high quality image capture during the vulnerable hours of darkness." Mr Murrell says he chose the MFLED lamps because they are ‘neat, attractive and effective’. A versatile solid-state illuminator, the product can be used internally or externally to improve the performance of surveillance cameras under low light, the makers say. Saffron Walden-based Mr Murrell adds: "They are really easy to install and give excellent coverage of the target area. We have used them in the same way for other domestic customers because they look very smart." He adds that the lamps long life and low power consumption is also an important factor. With an average life of more than five years the IR illuminator provides savings for the end user in terms of running and maintenance costs, the makers say. Livestock is kept at the property, with a walled garden and adjoining fields. These are being covered by Derwent’s SuperLED, which can provide IR illumination at up to 250m, the manufacturers say.
