Police, and police Community Support Officers, from Northampton’s Community Action Team can spend more time out on their beat thanks to The co-operative.
The convenience retail chain is providing offices for officers in two of their Northampton stores.
Community beat officers and PCSOs will be dropping in to The co-operative stores on Rothersthorpe Road and Kingsley Park Terrace in Northampton, to complete paperwork, make phone calls, or have a refreshment break. They are also planning to hold surgeries in the offices.
What they say
Northampton Community Safety Sgt Steve Bedford said: "We are very grateful to The co-operative for providing space in their stores to enable officers to make quick pit-stops to do paperwork or have a drink, rather than them having to return to the police station. This will maintain their visible presence on their beats for longer and also assist in targeting crime and anti-social behaviour in the area. Similar initiatives have been successful in other parts of the county in the past and we hope that shoppers in these Northampton co-operative stores and other local people will welcome this latest effort to make local officers even more visible and more accessible."
The co-operative’s regional loss prevention manager Richard Quinn added: "The
co-operative is committed to supporting the communities it serves and to tackling problems of crime and anti-social behaviour. We are delighted to be working closely with the police in Northampton to introduce this initiative in the heart of the community.”
