Doctors Get Smart

by msecadm4921

More than 30,000 doctors in training in the NHS are to be issued with smart cards with their name and photo.

More than 30,000 doctors in training throughout the NHS are to be issued with smart cards containing their name and photograph. Relevant pre-employment health check data will be securely stored within the card, available to authorised personnel. Hospital personnel staff will thus be able to confirm a doctor?s clearance for dealing safely with patients, allowing the doctor to start work without delay. The portability of the card will speed up the transfer of essential information whenever they move on to a new training placement. Swindon-based TSSI has the three-year contract. Dr Ashok Vaidya, TSSI Managing Director, said: ?We have specifically designed a system which offers a high level of protection to sensitive personal data whilst allowing hospital occupational health departments an easy assessment of the doctor?s medical status.?
