A free Integral Fire and Security Symposium (IFSS) sponsored by ADT runs at the Institute of Electrical Engineers, London on Tuesday, January 25.
Organisers say the event between 9am and 4pm offers the latest factual information on legislation, system design, technology innovations and product integration for all fire and security requirements. And, organisers add, it offers networking opportunities with fellow consultant engineers, architects and mechanical and electrical consultants and contractors.
About speakers
Terry Pretious of the Arson Control Forum based in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister will discuss arson; Phil Toase, Chief Fire Officer of West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, will discuss the future for fire authorities; and Peter Lackey of ADT will look at the Disability Discrimination Act, which has building access implications besides how to alert deaf people to a fire alarm – a law which came into force in October 2004. Edward Lister of ADT will go through the British Standard fore fire detection and alarm systems for buildings, BS 5839:1-2002. Garry Howe of insurers Zurich Risk Services will cover risk assessment. Also covered will be gas extinguishing systems and the incoming use of unique reference numbers (URNs) to monitor calls from fire alarm systems, along the lines of intruder alarm URNs, to manage false alarms.
