Front page lead news in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle yesterday, December 22.

An agency doorman without a Security Industry Authority licence was jailed for five years at Newcastle Crown Court – for giving a woman a drink spiked with a drug.

The Chronicle’s editorial titled ‘doormen must be licenced’ pointed out that doormen are required to have a licence but the jailed man did not: "It has yet to be adequately explained how this situation came about – but it should be."

The Chronicle did not pick up the irony that the administrative side of the SIA has a post box number based in Newcastle upon Tyne.
