As trailed in the January issue of Professional Security, the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) has launched the new face of its Fire and Security Steering Group, now named The Fire and Security Association (FSA).
Chaired by the Managing Director of Hampshire-based Southern Monitoring Services, Steve Kimber, the group says it aims to further represent the interests of ECA members in the fire and security sectors of the wider electrotechnical industry.
The FSA says it will focus on lobbying, guidance and training to develop and maintain standards, particularly in light of recent legislation and regulatory reform for both fire and security. The FSA adds that it will benefit from the established ECA platform, seeking to become the voice of all those involved in the provision of electronic fire and security systems.
The ECA claims a long heritage in this sector and created its specialist section for fire and security systems installations some 20 years ago. The association says that work associated with fire and security systems continues to be a significant component of ECA members’ activity, with in excess of £600m of member turnover currently in this sector, thus creating, it claims, high demand for a representative body.
Steve Kimber, who has 32 years’ experience in the industry, is a former chairman of the BSIA Security Systems Section. He said: "These are very exciting times for the fire and security sector and we look forward to taking our seat around the table at all levels that affect our industry, from government to significant organisations and agencies."
