Notified Body

by msecadm4921

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) has notified Intertek at Leatherhead, Surrey, UK to certify products under the Construction Products Directive 89/106/EEC.

Their certification scope now contains the published range of EN 54 series Standards for Fire alarm/detection, fixed fire-fighting equipment, fire and smoke control and explosion suppression products as well as those for windows, shutters, blinds, gates and related building hardware relating to doors and gates (fire/smoke compartmentation and on escape routes).

With the Construction Products Directive undergoing revision to become the Construction Products Regulations (CPR) in 2012, the availability of this new service from Intertek will help manufacturers comply with what will become mandatory product assessment for Fire detection systems.

Intertek’s UK & Europe Building Products Director, Jerry Quayle said: “The emergence of the EN 54 series of harmonised Standards means manufacturers can now test their products in a way that is recognised via CE Marking across Europe and not just within individual country schemes – which will open the region up for greater export opportunities. Testing to these Standards with a Notified Body such as Intertek will not only help to future –proof their ongoing compliance with the approaching Construction Products Regulations, but also provides specifiers, contractors and end users with increased confidence in the safety and reliability of fire detection and smoke management systems – as a Notified Body is a recognised expert in providing safety assurance.” For further information, visit –
