Open Day

A product drawing attention at Cougar Monitoring’s open day at its operations centre at Cradley Heath, West Midlands on 28 April was the Optex Redscan RLS3060 laser scan detector sensor.

The sensor has been designed for use in medium to large sized sites where volumetric detection is required, or perimeter applications where longer range is required coupled with a very narrow detection area.

Dale Jones, Area Sales Manager, Optex Europe, says: “The RLS3060 has a rugged and durable construction and is highly reliable in operation. It has four, individually addressable and adjustable zones, making it ideal for integrating with Preset Dome cameras typically used in Remote CCTV Verification systems and high-end perimeter security systems.”

The product concept allows for horizontal scanning (volumetric detection coverage) and vertical scanning (downward facing narrow beam) with four fully addressable zone contact outputs. The system utilises a time-of-flight laser scanning technology and detects out to a maximum 30m range with a 180 degree arc of coverage. Special system algorithms are able to differentiate between large human targets and smaller unwanted targets such as small animals.

The product can map the secure area perfectly. In its downward facing mode, the product scan around objects and map the ground contours perfectly, including raised mounds and/or gullies thus eliminating possible creep zone areas.

The polycarbonate housing provides it’s claimed a stable environment for the detection electronics. All head adjustments are tamper protected to prevent sensors being re-aligned by unauthorised personnel.

As well as key security equipment manufactures, guests at the open day included risk assessors from the insurance industry, as well as NSI approved installation companies, Police Architect Liaison Officers, and representatives from local authorities and businesses.

Established in 1996 by two senior ex-police officers, Cougar Monitoring provides CCTV, key holding, emergency response, and mobile patrols. More information on the company at its website at –
